Applications Defined
Tru2way applications create a customized, interactive experience for the TV viewer. Coming soon to a TV near you, cable customers will be able to customize their on-screen guide, respond to advertising campaigns, answer polls or trivia questions, play games, or complete transactions using their remote control.

Just don't forget to tip the pizza delivery man!

From a technical perspective, applications are divided into two categories: bound and unbound applications.

Bound applications are tied to a specific channel and are delivered inside that specific channel's video stream. With simpler memory requirements, bound applications can run on the large universe of more than 30 million legacy set-top boxes that have already been deployed in cable customers' homes, plus new tru2way retail devices as well.

Unbound applications do not require that the viewer stay tuned to a specific channel. Example applications include guide applications and overall device navigation applications. All tru2way applications developers to make "write once, run everywhere" applications.

North American cable operators are currently upgrading their headends and deploying tru2way enabled set-top boxes. In the near future, fully featured tru2way applications will be delivered piping hot to cable customers.
